Introducing Ken Jordan: A Man of Many Hats

If you haven’t met him already, let us introduce you to Ken Jordan. Ken is the mayor of San Saba, Texas since 2008, and has lived in our community and raised his family here for over 30 years. During that time, Ken has worn many hats. His involvement with the legendary Harry’s Boots store and as the owner at the Jordan Cattle Auction keeps him busy alongside his mayoral responsibilities. Times have changed, but in all of these important roles, Ken has found CTTC to be an important part of his success at each step along the way.

Ken Keeps A Meticulous Schedule

“Sometimes you have to be very organized to keep balance and perspective. I’m meticulous about everyday scheduling for each entity, and then prioritize to get the most important tasks done. It takes a lot of work because you get pulled in a lot of different directions, and you have to solve issues or problems.” Ken’s balancing act has only become more complicated over time, with online sales at the cattle auction, digital inventory systems at Harry’s, and of course, everyday meetings and communications as mayor, there is a lot to manage. For Ken, his phone and the internet are critical to each of his roles.

“Reliable internet service is essential in everything I do.” –  Ken Jordan

Bringing Technology to Agriculture

The Jordan Cattle Auction is one of the largest of its kind in Texas. “We offer two traditional weekly sales and pioneered the sale of premium, health-certified cattle. In addition to weekly auctions and premium, health-certified sales, we offer special sales promoting replacement females, feeder calves and yearlings, and breeding bulls.” These sales happen in person, and in the past, over the phone, but now with the help of CTTC, the auction runs internet sales where ranchers can log in and bid in real-time during the auctions. The ability to feature fiber internet speeds makes this a great way for the cattle auction to reach more buyers. Of course, Ken and his family own the cattle auction, but he is also front and center on auction days. Ken normally sits right alongside the auctioneer and keeps the bidding going for those in the arena and online.

A Texas Legend for Over 85 Years

Harry’s Boots has become a destination for shopping for Western wear and cowboy boots. While local boot shops were more common in the past, many have fallen by the wayside due to chain competition and changing demographics, but Harry’s stands strong as an anchor to the historic downtown in San Saba. The iconic boot sign is unforgettable, and the shopping experience is as well. As soon as you walk in, the scent of boot leather is present and adds to the overall experience. Ken became the owner of Harry’s in 2008 and has continued to expand and grow the store to encompass nearly an entire city block! The inventory needed to fill such an enormous store has to be overwhelming, but Harry’s handles it with ease, with shipping and receiving technology that arrives on CTTC fiber internet.

A Small Town With Changing Needs

During his time as mayor, Ken has seen a lot of change, including investment in downtown structures, improvements to city streets and sidewalks, the growth of local signature events like the Sip n’ Stroll, and the development of the Catkins Ball. Small towns may change more slowly than the bigger cities, but there is no question that technology has provided San Saba with an advantage compared to their peer towns without high-speed internet access. Access to fiber internet has allowed local businesses to become global businesses, and many have discovered San Saba as an escape from the rigors of city life, thanks to the ability to work remotely. CTTC has been here every step of the way, providing support for big projects, free wi-fi access at Mill Pond Park, and by investing in laying fiber for rural communities like San Saba.
